Propaganda In-Depth

With this In-Depth piece I wanted to use a black young man and put him in a better lighting for the portrait. I wanted bright colors for the photo to show that look and I also wanted the background to give that look to him as well. I thought the children books and the bright colored covers would make him more admirable. To top that off I had him smile in the photo. In the propaganda piece, I wanted to make him more in the stereotypical aspect of a black man. This is usually associated with them looking suspicious and painted as a thug if they look suspicious. I thought the DARE shirt would be appropriate because many people who wear the shirt aren't necessarily drug free and I felt this could represent another stereotype of thug and/or drug dealer.
